Why AI Dating Should Not Become A Thing

Image
As AI gets bigger and bigger, people are using it to the max. A controversial topic that's coming up is whether AI should be companions. Researchers have been asking that and recently talked about it. In a debate, Thao Ha, an Arizona state professor, said AI was going to be alongside human dating. One point she made was that people who are in relationships with AI are not outcasts. According to her, it is being normalized now. The last thing she said in her opening statement was that it's all about a mindset. It may not be real love, but the people in relationships with AI will think it is, which is called being interdependent, according to Ha. And she thinks being interdependent is okay.  During the debate, some statistics were also shown to the public. 1 in 4 adults in their 20s think that dating AI will be normalized. Another important note is that 67 million people are already using AI companions across the world. On the other side is Justin R. Garcia, Executive Director ...

TikTok in Classrooms

Image
Every year, TikTok gets bigger and bigger for students. TikTok is a very popular app for students and is known for its short-form videos that you scroll. Teachers noticed and wondered if they should use short-form video platforms. Some teachers are siding with it and some teachers are going against it.  Last month, a debate was organized by Opentodebate.org between an educational influencer and chemistry teacher named Phil Cook and Adrian Dingle, a secondary school teacher and educational consultant. One reason why Phil Cook is for it is because he believes micro learning is a good thing. Microlearning is watching shorter videos instead of longer videos. He believes it is a good way that we should start using to learn more often. Micro learning is helpful because it's what kids are more used to now. An example of this is watching other people doing experiments that are dangerous for younger kids in the classroom. Some of these include fire and explosiveness experiments that are not...

J.D. Vance Speaks at the Paris AI Summit

J.D. Vance spoke at the Paris AI Summit last month. He had many big and leading ideas about AI. He has very big goals for the country and has many great ideas to do for the U.S. He has spoken in public many times with very strong and leading ideas while holding a great tenacity to them.  One idea that was big was in 2016 during a TED Talk. He wanted to make sure no kid had to go through a rough childhood. He went through a rough childhood himself, but thankfully it got better. He then became a successful person after and looked back and thought that no other child should go through what he did. A reason why this happened was because he was lucky enough to get a better childhood after having a bad one and knew the difference between a bad and a good one.  Another big idea he has right now is using AI. He wants to use it to human advantage in a good instead of a bad way. Instead of focusing on how AI can take over the world, he sees how it can help humans with difficult-t...

Is the Algorithm Fair or Unfair?

In crime prevention and other jobs, people are using algorithms to see if they can employ people or arrest people based on where they live, gender, or race. You know when you like a video it gives you more videos related to the one you watched? For example, if you liked a video on Brawl Stars you will get more videos about it making you watch more and more content. In this case, the algorithm is finding criminals based on their home, their race, and their gender. For example, if a man commits a crime then the algorithm is going to track it and log it, and more men will get arrested for doing nothing. The past of the algorithm plays a big part in it today. Since every crime and other thing the algorithm uses is logged, then it heavily affects the algorithm today. This may sound simple to understand since you just have to look at the past of the crimes and other things it's logging, but it is still hard to understand. It is so hard to understand it sometimes they call it a black box....

Kamala or Trump? A Guide to the 2024 Election

Image
Every four years there is an election to see who will become the president of the United States. Every U.S. citizen who is over 18 can choose to vote. Usually towards the end, there are only 2 candidates that can win the election compared to everyone else. Today I will be teaching you all about Kamala and Trump who are the two main candidates for the 2024 election. I will be saying what each person claims. Kamala is the first candidate who subbed for Joe Biden who stopped running for the election. Kamala is the Vice president right now for Joe Biden who is the current president. Then there is Trump who used to be a president and is running again this year. Each president had their own things that they wanted to change. Let’s start with Kamala Harris. Kamala grew up in a middle-class area. She was not rich and she wanted other people never to experience that. So when she becomes president she will lower tax prices for first-time house buyers. This means that for example, people who c...

"Lather and Nothing Else" Tells us to Take Opportunities

Image
"Lather and Nothing Else" by Hernando T éllez is a story about revenge. The story starts off with a person going to an enemy barber shop. The barber has the chance to kill him, but he does not.  I think the barber should have killed him because the man killed his friends so he should have done it. I felt justice was justified when I took my friend's sandwich after they took my food.  Some of the hard decisions I make are to either focus in class or to talk to my friends. If I talk to my friends more I have more fun, but do not get as much work done though. If I lock in I get work done, but I do not have much fun. One decision that was hard to make was when I did a martial art. I had to quit it and it was hard for me. I did the martial art for a while and I did not want to stop it for good. I had to quit it because I had to commit to the swim team. My team was high-commitment and I could not do both of them. In conclusion, there is a theme to follow. It is to take chances ...

What "Ruthless" Shows us About Not Being Cruel

Image
The short story “Ruthless” by William DeMille starts when some guys rob Judson and take his alcohol. Judson gets really mad as a result of this. He then puts poison so they would die if they stole it and drank it. Then while getting ready to leave he slipped and fell and got knocked out. Some guy named Alan found him and took care of him and gave him the alcohol to give him energy. As a result of this Judson died of his own alcohol. I think it was not okay for Judson to take justice into his own hands. I think this because he is not a cop and should have left the police to do this. Once at school, I got some food stolen from me. As a result of this, I did not tell a teacher and instead stole his food. After that, he snitched and we both got in trouble. I think that it was both Judson’s fault and not his fault. I think it was his fault because he did not call the cops. I also think it was not his fault for trying to solve his own problem. Something unfair that happened to me was when I ...
