Kamala or Trump? A Guide to the 2024 Election


Every four years there is an election to see who will become the president of the United States. Every U.S. citizen who is over 18 can choose to vote. Usually towards the end, there are only 2 candidates that can win the election compared to everyone else. Today I will be teaching you all about Kamala and Trump who are the two main candidates for the 2024 election. I will be saying what each person claims.

Kamala is the first candidate who subbed for Joe Biden who stopped running for the election. Kamala is the Vice president right now for Joe Biden who is the current president. Then there is Trump who used to be a president and is running again this year. Each president had their own things that they wanted to change.


Let’s start with Kamala Harris. Kamala grew up in a middle-class area. She was not rich and she wanted other people never to experience that. So when she becomes president she will lower tax prices for first-time house buyers. This means that for example, people who come out of college or move out of their parents' house will be able to buy their own house and will pay less tax for a while. This can be super helpful because prices are rising because of inflation. But this means houses will be worth less because of inflation.


Kamala is also going to change crime. She was once a prosecutor and said she was “smart on crime.” She wants to stop using the death sentence since it is unconstitutional. She prevents it from happening and does not use it. For example, she stopped a death sentence on someone even though they killed a police officer.


Lastly, Kamala wants to lower/stop tipping taxes. Instead, the government would increase their hourly wage. This may seem better but in reality, it's worse. In most jobs that have tips in them, a lot of money that they get is from tips.


Trump is also going to do some stuff about crime. The main thing is enforcing stop and frisk. This is when a cop randomly checks and looks at your car and your body to make sure you do not have anything illegal such as drugs and other stuff like that. This makes it so there will be less chance of crime making it a safer place. Trump thinks Kamala is making a bad decision by letting criminals immigrate to the US which only causes more crime he said.


We also learned lot about the candidates’ personalities now after the debate. Kamala is a very good sportsman compared to Trump. She immediately shook his hand and said good luck before the debate. Kamala seems to care about the people more than Trump. Trump was being racist since he said people “are eating the dogs and the cats” and other house pets. You may think Trump lost some support from this but he did not. Kamala is more worried about climate change instead of Trump. Trump said later that Kamala was going to start WW3 which would be bad since the military are only getting stronger, which could destroy the world. 


With both candidates saying what they will try to change and both have good points, I think the election will come down very close. If I could vote I do not know who I would vote for. I would need to go deeper and see what each person will do more than just what I saw during my research.

Although both are candidates doing different and good things, I do think Kamala is going to win since most of California is going to vote for her. California is the most populated state in the US.

TikTok in Classrooms

Every year, TikTok gets bigger and bigger for students. TikTok is a very popular app for students and is known for its short-form videos that you scroll. Teachers noticed and wondered if they should use short-form video platforms. Some teachers are siding with it and some teachers are going against it.  Last month, a debate was organized by Opentodebate.org between an educational influencer and chemistry teacher named Phil Cook and Adrian Dingle, a secondary school teacher and educational consultant. One reason why Phil Cook is for it is because he believes micro learning is a good thing. Microlearning is watching shorter videos instead of longer videos. He believes it is a good way that we should start using to learn more often. Micro learning is helpful because it's what kids are more used to now.
