Accepting Who You Are

Because of the Lunar New Year, I will be writing about a short story called “Hello My Name is___” by Jason Kim. Kim moved to Missouri when he was ten years old. He changed his name to Jason Kim for a more “American” name. In the beginning, he stayed on the side while not being used to playing tag, basketball, and sports. He wanted to fit in so badly that he denied his parents making him his favorite food and instead asked for McDonald's and Pizza Hut. When he moved to New York he started to fit in more as an Aisan and he was getting asked questions about living in Korea. When he was 30, he looked in the mirror and finally accepted that he was an Asian person.

The story shows you can not change your identity. Kim tries to change his identity, but his parents just thought he was being weird. When he was 30 he accepted to be an Asian after going to New York. I think you can not change your identity because you have to accept who you are as a person. My friend is Asian but he says he identifies as white so he can eat more fast food like a true American. It's a joke because you have to accept who you are as a person and be proud of it.

I think people try to fit in the crowd so they can be like the people there. When my friends go crazy and start running I follow them to try and fit in. In the end, I think you should accept who you are as a person and be proud of it.
