The Beginner’s Guide to PvP in Minecraft

Minecraft is a game about building, crafting, and pvp. The purpose of this guide is to get familiar with pvp and being comfortable near spawn. This guide is for players that are not good at pvp and want to get good at it.

What is PVP?

Pvp stands for “player vs player.”  This means you're in a duel and fighting or racing the opponent. The goal is to be the last person on the battlefield. This means you're either going to play 1v1 or 2v2 etc. There is also a gamemode called FFA which stands for “free for all'' which means you fight for yourself and that's it.

Starter Weapons

There are a few weapons that are good for the early game in a server. You should first get the wooden pickaxe to get stone and craft a stone ax and stone sword and maybe a shield if you have one iron and wood. You may want leather armor if you can craft it, but I don’t recommend it because it barely does anything.

Enchantments

In the middle to end of the game you should have a lot of enchantments because they make weapons and armor even stronger, the best being mending which is really hard to get. It makes your armor durability increase when getting xp. 

Next is unbreaking, which you can guess makes it harder for a tool to break. Then there is protection and sharpness which are very good because they make the best armor possible sometimes. 

There's other side-enchantments I would get like fire aspect and sweeping edge and aqua infinity and feather falling. All the other enchantments are good, but not for pvp.

Armor and Tools

Armor and tools are very important in pvp.

Leather is the worst. Then it's golden, chainmail, iron,  diamond and then netherite. I put armor into 2 sections, good and bad. Leather and gold and chainmail are the bad sections. Leather does nothing, gold breaks quickly, and chainmail is extremely hard to find.

Iron and diamond and netherite are the best, but I would go for netherite tools and armor because it's the best and it's even better with enchantments.

Food and Utilities

This is probably the most important part because the food is very good. In the early game, it's better to get steak and bread and other types of foods. But later in the game, you should get golden carrots and golden apples and maybe even enchanted golden apples.

In utilities I would start by getting blocks and maybe 1 to 4 ender pearls to get away from a bad situation. I would always get a water bucket or a lava bucket and a flint and steel. I would also get a shield. Later in the game, you should have access to the end for a lot of ender pearls. I would get a lot of ender pearls and some totems of undying.

Potions

Potions (or “pots”) are so important that you would lose a game if you did not have them. In pvp you should always have 3 pots such as strength 2, speed 2, and fire resistance. 

There are some additional pots that are not for pvp, but are good for it in case you need them. These pots are turtle master and night vision and water breathing and poison and harming. These pots would get you way farther in pvp battles.

Late Game Pvp

Late game pvp is way more complicated because you have way more items. The best weapon in all of minecraft is the end crystal and the respawn anchor. The rest I already talked about. 

End crystals are good when your enemy is above you. In minecraft, if your legs are in the same y-axis as an end crystal, you will kill them unless they have a totem of undying. Respawn anchors are used to getting below your opponents, but are still very good for killing people.

A Few Tips about PvP 

Here is one one basic tip and one advanced tip for pvp:

1) pearls do damage when using them (that's how I sometimes die)
2) totems reset all status effects, even the good ones, so reapply them immediately

Versions 1.19 v 1.8

Versions 1.19 and 1.8 are very different. 1.19 contains more aim and timing and is not that much ping-based and has more items to use. 

1.8 is the mode where people break their mouse when trying to click more quickly. It's basically pvp for people who can't aim and have very good ping.

PvP servers

I recommend hypixel and pvp legacy and mc.club. Hypixel 1.8 games such as Bedwars and Skywars are fun to play. Pvp legacy is 1.19 pvp kits and duels. Mc.club is 1.19 pvp with end crystal and no debuff games.
